SUMMARY:Rope Rescue Operator & Technician Combo Course
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview: \n\n\n\nThis 6-day training includes the following \n\n\n\n\nRope Rescue Technician Certification (Rescue3 Accredited)\n\n\n\n\nCourse will begin with the RRO (Rope Rescue Operator) portion and provide essential field rescue skills in a technical rope rescue environment. Participants will conduct multiple rope-based training exercises and scenarios\, including day and night operations\, which will build in complexity and responsibility. \n\n\n\nThe second portion of this course\, the RRT\, is designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. Then\, hands-on opportunities are provided for individuals to learn various components of technical rope rescue systems. This will be followed with integrated practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  \n\n\n\nTraining days will run approximately 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a ½ hour break for lunch. Plan for dealing with outdoor conditions by bringing appropriate clothing layers\, water and food requirements. In the even inclement weather\, arrangements will be made to find appropriate training facilities…but there’s always the chance of getting surprised by weather. Be prepared. \n\n\n\nCourse topics are predetermined but will operate on a flexible schedule if needed to facilitate essential learning opportunities.  \n\n\n\nCourse Logistics: \n\n\n\nThe course will be held in Rapid City\, SD and training areas throughout the Black Hills. This area provides numerous rescue training opportunities and is a short drive from Custer\, Hill City\, Custer State Park\, The Badlands\, and Mt.  Rushmore. DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\n\n\n\n18 years or older \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCourse Overview \n\n\n\n30hr – 3 day Course \n\n\n\nThe NIM Medical Wilderness First Aid course will provide essential field first aid skills in a remote environment.  Participants will learn first aid techniques and will apply that knowledge through hands-on exercises and scenarios. \n\n\n\nThis course presents information that can be used in day hikes\, multi-day excursions\, weekend camping\, or packing trips\, and is designed for trail runners\, camp counselors and camp staff\, off-roading and 4×4 enthusiasts\,\, snowmobiling\, horse packing\, hikers\, climbers\, and other medical outdoor enthusiasts.   \n\n\n\nAn AHA CPR course will be included and integrated into this course. \n\n\n\nCourse Topics \n\n\n\n\nWilderness Medicine Overview and Protocols\n\n\n\nAnatomy and Physiology (Systems Approach)\n\n\n\nPatient Assessment Methodology\n\n\n\nMedical Equipment and Improv\n\n\n\nAirway and Respiratory Management\n\n\n\nFractures and Dislocations\n\n\n\nHead\, Spine\, and Torso Injuries\n\n\n\nHeat and Hydration\n\n\n\nCold Emergencies\n\n\n\nMedical Problems\n\n\n\nToxicology\n\n\n\nWound Care and Bleeding Control\n\n\n\nSearch and Rescue Techniques\n\n\n\n\nClassroom \n\n\n\nCourse days run roughly from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with an hour-long break for lunch.  Course topics are scheduled but will operate on a rolling schedule as needed to optimize student learning and success.  The class format involves lectures integrated with practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  Scenarios and practice sessions will take place both inside and outside.  \n\n\n\nThe course is designed to recreate the flow of emergency incidents and the treatment of patients found in austere environments.  Learning aids and equipment may be used including UTVs\, Ambulances\, and Rescue Gear. Stage (moulage) blood and make-up are used to increase the experience of scenarios. Bring clothing appropriate for all weather conditions and temperatures while acting as the rescuer and the patient. Be prepared to hike moderate distances with a small day pack\, group-carry patients with litters\, and participate in outdoor learning activities in any weather. \n\n\n\nLogistics \n\n\n\nLocation:   \n\n\n\n\nThe course will be held at Storm Mountain in Rapid City\, SD. This site is a “camp” style facility on beautiful Black Hills property with numerous education / out buildings\, wilderness areas\, common areas\, dining hall\, etc. and is a short drive from Rapid City and Mt. Rushmore. \n\n\n\nStorm Mountain has an extensive trail system\, area climbing opportunities\, and access to Spring Creek.\n\n\n\n\nTravel: \n\n\n\n\nAddress or the location is 23740 Storm Mountain Road\, Rapid City\, SD 57702\n\n\n\nStudents are responsible for all travel to and from the teaching location (NIM staff may be available to shuttle students to and from the airport).  Nearest Airport:  Rapid City Regional Airport\n\n\n\n\nFood \n\n\n\n\nStudents should prepare to bring their own lunch each day. Participants will conduct multiple rope-based training exercises and scenarios\, including day and night operations\, which will build in complexity and responsibility. \n\n\n\nThe second portion of this course\, the RRT\, is designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. Then\, hands-on opportunities are provided for individuals to learn various components of technical rope rescue systems. This will be followed with integrated practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  \n\n\n\nTraining days will run approximately 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a ½ hour break for lunch. Plan for dealing with outdoor conditions by bringing appropriate clothing layers\, water and food requirements. In the even inclement weather\, arrangements will be made to find appropriate training facilities…but there’s always the chance of getting surprised by weather. Be prepared. \n\n\n\nCourse topics are predetermined but will operate on a flexible schedule if needed to facilitate essential learning opportunities.  \n\n\n\nCourse Logistics: \n\n\n\nThe course will be held in Rapid City\, SD and training areas throughout the Black Hills. This area provides numerous rescue training opportunities and is a short drive from Custer\, Hill City\, Custer State Park\, The Badlands\, and Mt.  Rushmore. Scenario locations and distances are within an hour drive.  \n\n\n\nLocation:   \n\n\n\n\nThe course will be held at Storm Mountain in Rapid City\, SD. This site is a “camp” style facility on beautiful Black Hills property with numerous education / out buildings\, wilderness areas\, common areas\, dining hall\, etc. and is a short drive from Rapid City and Mt. Rushmore. \n\n\n\nStorm Mountain has an extensive trail system\, area climbing opportunities\, and access to Spring Creek.\n\n\n\n\nTravel: \n\n\n\n\nAddress or the location is 23740 Storm Mountain Road\, Rapid City\, SD 57702\n\n\n\nStudents are responsible for all travel to and from the teaching location (NIM staff may be available to shuttle students to and from the airport).  Nearest Airport:  Rapid City Regional Airport\n\n\n\n\nLodging:  \n\n\n\n\nMultiple “dorm” style rooms are available for students and sleep up to 8 people.  Rooms will be assigned by NIM faculty as registrations and students arrive.  Each room has bunk-style beds and mattresses. Students should plan on bringing any/all bedding materials\, sleeping bags\, pillows etc.  All rooms and the entire facility are climate controlled.  \n\n\n\nBathrooms and Showers are available in the facility and are “dorm” style with private shower stalls and common sink areas. DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\n32hr – 4 day Course. \n18 years or older \nCurrent AHA BLS (CPR) certification is a prerequisite for the course. Online course through (AHA) must be taken prior skills session and a course certificate must be emailed prior to CPR skills session. \n  \n  \nThe NIM Medical WFR-A Recertification course is designed to recertify the traditional “WFR” or NIM Medical “WFR-A” certification.  Upon completion of this course\, students will be granted a “WFR-A” certification that is recommended to be renewed every 2 years.   \nThe clinical focus of the course will include content and live scenarios specific to Outdoor Recreation\, Expedition / Travel Medicine\, Public Health and Humanitarian Emergencies\, Austere Medevac\, and Leadership Management.  This course is ideal for those seeking to be on ski patrols\, wildland firefighters\, humanitarian aid groups\, or basic medical aid in semi-tactical environments.  \n\nThis course does not include or meet the requirements of a TCCC or similar course\n\nClassroom\nCourse days run roughly from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an hour-long break for lunch.  Course topics are scheduled but will operate on a rolling schedule as needed to optimize student learning and success.  The class format involves lectures integrated with practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  Scenarios and practice sessions will take place both inside and outside.  \nThe course is designed to recreate the flow of emergency incidents and the treatment of patients found in austere environments.  Learning aids and equipment may be used including UTVs\, Ambulances\, and Rescue Gear. Stage (moulage) blood and make-up are used to increase the experience of scenarios. Bring clothing appropriate for all weather conditions and temperatures while acting as the rescuer and the patient. Be prepared to hike moderate distances with a small day pack\, group-carry patients with litters\, and participate in outdoor learning activities in any weather. \nLogistics\nLocation:  \n\nThe course will be held at Storm Mountain in Rapid City\, SD. This site is a “camp” style facility on beautiful Black Hills property with numerous education / out buildings\, wilderness areas\, common areas\, dining hall\, etc. and is a short drive from Rapid City and Mt. Rushmore. \nStorm Mountain has an extensive trail system\, area climbing opportunities\, and access to Spring Creek.\n\n  \nTravel:\n\nAddress or the location is 23740 Storm Mountain Road\, Rapid City\, SD 57702\nStudents are responsible for all travel to and from the teaching location (NIM staff may be available to shuttle students to and from the airport).  Nearest Airport:  Rapid City Regional Airport\n\nLodging\n\nMultiple “dorm” style rooms are available for students and sleep up to 8 people.  Rooms will be assigned by NIM faculty as registrations and students arrive.  Each room has bunk-style beds and mattresses. Students should plan on bringing any/all bedding materials\, sleeping bags\, pillows etc.  All rooms and the entire facility is climate controlled.  \nBathrooms and Showers are available in the facility and are “dorm” style with private shower stalls and common sink areas. SUMMARY:Rope Rescue Operator & Technician Combo Course
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview: \nThis 6-day training will begin with the RRO portion and provide essential field rescue skills in a technical rope rescue environment. Participants will conduct multiple rope-based training exercises and scenarios\, including day and night operations\, which will build in complexity and responsibility. The second portion of this course\, the RRT\, is designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. Students learn and practice such skills as preplanning\, size-up and scene management\, ascending and descending\, belaying\, mechanical advantage systems\, lowering and raising systems\, patient packaging and litter attending\, tethers\, and highlines. Then\, hands-on opportunities are provided for individuals to learn various components of technical rope rescue systems. This will be followed with integrated practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  Training days will run approximately 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a ½ hour break for lunch. Plan for dealing with outdoor conditions by bringing appropriate clothing layers\, water and food requirements. In the even inclement weather\, arrangements will be made to find appropriate training facilities…but there’s always the chance of getting surprised by weather. Be prepared. Course topics are predetermined\, but will operate on a flexible schedule if needed to facilitate essential learning opportunities.  \nCourse Logistics: \nThe course will be held in Rapid City\, SD and training areas throughout the Black Hills. This area provides numerous rescue training opportunities and is a short drive from Custer\, Hill City\, Custer State Park\, The Badlands and Mt.  Rushmore. Scenario locations and distances are within an hour drive.  \nLocation:  \n\nThe course will be held at Storm Mountain in Rapid City\, SD. This site is a “camp” style facility on beautiful Black Hills property with numerous education / out buildings\, wilderness areas\, common areas\, dining hall\, etc. and is a short drive from Rapid City and Mt. SUMMARY:Wilderness First Responder – Austere (WFR-A)
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nMust be 18 to register \n88 hr – 12 day Course \nThe NIM Medical WFR-A course is designed to replace and exceed the traditional “Wilderness First Responder” or “WFR” course by including expanded education in a broader “austere” environment. \nThe clinical focus of the course will include content and live scenarios specific to Outdoor Recreation\, Expedition / Travel Medicine\, Public Health and Humanitarian Emergencies\, Austere Medevac\, and Leadership Management.  This course is ideal for those seeking to be on ski patrols\, wildland firefighters\, humanitarian aid groups\, or basic medical aid in semi-tactical environments. \n\nThis course is a stand-alone course and will provide a “WFR-A” certification that meets and exceeds a “WFR” certification.\nThis course does not include or meet the requirements of a TCCC or similar course\n\nClassroom\nCourse days run roughly from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an hour-long break for lunch.  Course topics are scheduled but will operate on a rolling schedule as needed to optimize student learning and success.  The class format involves lectures integrated with practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  Scenarios and practice sessions will take place both inside and outside. \nThe course is designed to recreate the flow of emergency incidents and the treatment of patients found in austere environments.  Learning aids and equipment may be used including UTVs\, Ambulances\, and Rescue Gear. Stage (moulage) blood and make-up are used to increase the experience of scenarios. Bring clothing appropriate for all weather conditions and temperatures while acting as the rescuer and the patient.
