SUMMARY:Rope Rescue Operator & Technician Combo Course
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview: \n\n\n\nThis 6-day training includes the following \n\n\n\n\nRope Rescue Technician Certification (Rescue3 Accredited)\n\n\n\n\nCourse will begin with the RRO (Rope Rescue Operator) portion and provide essential field rescue skills in a technical rope rescue environment. Participants will conduct multiple rope-based training exercises and scenarios\, including day and night operations\, which will build in complexity and responsibility. \n\n\n\nThe second portion of this course\, the RRT\, is designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. Students learn and practice such skills as preplanning\, size-up and scene management\, ascending and descending\, belaying\, mechanical advantage systems\, lowering and raising systems\, patient packaging and litter attending\, tethers\, and highlines. \n\n\n\nEach portion of the course will include clinical concepts\, patient care skills\, leadership skills and decision-making opportunities that will be integrated into the group dynamics\, equipment logistics\, and scene planning aspects of the training.   \n\n\n\nThis course is accredited through Rescue 3 International and meets or exceeds the requirements of “NFPA 2500 (formerly 1670) and NFPA 1006 Standards-Rope Operations – Rope Rescue Levels I and II”.   \n\n\n\nThis course is designed to meet the needs of multiple industries including S&R\, REM\, Structure Fire\, Wildland Fire\, Law Enforcement\, Emergency Medical Services\, Park Service\, Forest Service\, Ski Patrol and Military. \n\n\n\nPrerequisites: \n\n\n\nMinimum age: 18 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCourse Details:\n\n\n\n1st Portion – 30-Hour RRO COURSE TOPICS: \n\n\n\n\nRope handling and knots\, anchor systems and construction \n\n\n\nIdentifying low vs. high angle terrain  \n\n\n\nTechnical rigging principles \n\n\n\nEquipment strengths/ Safety considerations\n\n\n\nMechanical advantage systems \n\n\n\nAscending and rappelling \n\n\n\nRaising and lowering of rescue systems \n\n\n\nPatient packaging \n\n\n\nLow/Medium/High-angle litter rigging \n\n\n\nEdge transitions \n\n\n\nTeam dynamics and communications.  \n\n\n\n\n2nd Portion – 30-Hour RRT COURSE TOPICS: \n\n\n\n\nTeam dynamics and communications in a leadership role.  \n\n\n\nAdvanced rope handling\, knots\, anchor systems and construction \n\n\n\nIncident Management and Operational Logistics\n\n\n\nLow/Medium/High-angle litter rigging principles\n\n\n\nGuiding Lines\, Skateblocks\, and deflections\n\n\n\nAdvanced Mechanical advantage systems \n\n\n\nVertical/Horizontal Litter Edge Transitions \n\n\n\nEdge transitions using artificial high directionals \n\n\n\nRaising and lowering with mirrored\, twin-tensioned rescue systems\n\n\n\nSafety considerations in complex rescue operations\n\n\n\n\nClass Format:\n\n\n\nThe didactic portions of the course will involve lecture style training in an indoor/outdoor environment while allowing for feedback from participants. Then\, hands-on opportunities are provided for individuals to learn various components of technical rope rescue systems. This will be followed with integrated practical scenarios\, case studies\, and skills sessions.  \n\n\n\nTraining days will run approximately 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a ½ hour break for lunch.
